Welcome to Apply Yourself
Welcome to Apply Yourself, an idea and a service that I hope can change the world, one individual at a time. Whether you are looking for career inspiration, a new opportunity, or just exploring, I hope these resources can assist and inspire you to build a story that you are proud of.
My journey resonates with a lot of college graduates: I went to school and may or may not have taken the direction I was going seriously. I was not sure where I’d go, but kept hearing, “it’ll all work out.” I was lucky to land a Recruiting job, where learned I was good at connecting people and coaching individuals through the career process. However, here is where I learned the dark side of the job search industry - because it is an industry. Endless soulless ATS’s, bad recruiters and organizations ghosting qualified candidate. I wasn’t sure if I was helping companies or individuals anymore.
The idea sparked while I walking my dog, Chip, that burned inside me: Job Seekers or Career Opportunists feel lost because no one is on their side: Recruiters want to fill a role for a client, and hiring managers want you to work for them. But what about you, the individual?
I created my Idea, Marko Management, but felt that it did not resonate with what people want. That’s when it hit me: working on yourself and wanting change is an active process. Enriching your life or growing as an individual doesn’t happen, you must seek it. You must Apply Yourself every day to grow and change for a better life. Instead of waiting for the “it will work out,” go and take it for yourself.
I was inspired when I hired a fitness coach. I am an active guy, I’ve been addicted to the gym since college. I’ve swam, lifted, done crossfit, biked, ran, played volleyball, kickball, tennis and more. Yet, my body has always been less than desirable for me. So, I took a leap and hired a coach to help me learn, and that’s the truth: learning is key.
There is an entire industry designed to keep hiring “efficient” as possible using coding, languages, processes and technology. And if you aren’t aware, how can you beat it! There are plenty of studies and polls that show that job seekers find the application process harder and more draining than ever before. Companies post fake jobs for data collection and LinkedIn shows you hundreds of applicants for one job.
So I am challenging this idea. Its time for change, and I’ll take the stand. I want to help individuals grow and thrive in their field and have the support, knowledge, and accountability to land their dream job, secure financial stability and have the work-life balance they desire.
So thank you for reading and taking time to Apply Yourself!
